Our Motto
Our motto Bring It On! harkens to the fighting spirit of the Anglo Saxons defending their land against invading armies of the 9th century. It reminds us not to shrink in the presence of adversity, but to meet all challenges while adhering to a higher standard of personal conduct. Be committed to positive change and constant improvement for the betterment of all.
Our Name
Wessex is regarded as the last English kingdom before unification brought the smaller realms under one ruler. Its last king was Alfred the Great.
Wessex is often symbolized by a wyvern.
Both Henry of Huntington and Matthew of Westminster talk of a golden wyvern being raised at the Battle of Burford in 752 by the West Saxons. The Bayeux Tapestry depicts a fallen golden wyvern, as well as a red/golden/white wyvern at the death of King Harold II, who was previously Earl of Wessex.
